Take a cue from the aunts' midnight margarita dance and stir up a witchy potion: a moody blood orange classic, plus a zero-proof Soberita for the Sober October crowd. Let the cauldron boil!
1 1/2 oz blanco tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
3 oz fresh blood orange juice
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/4 oz agave syrup (optional, for a sweeter drink)
About 3 tablespoons sugar plus a bit of blood orange zest, for the rim
1 blood orange slice
Rub the zest into the sugar on a small plate.
Wet the rim of a rocks glass, dip it in the zest sugar and fill the glass with ice.
Shake the tequila, lime, blood orange juice, Cointreau and agave hard with ice for about 30 seconds.
Strain over the ice and finish with the blood orange slice.
2 oz zero-proof agave spirit
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz fresh blood orange juice
1/2 oz agave syrup
Salt for the rim (ideally Tajín Clásico) and a blood orange wheel
Salt the rim of a double old fashioned glass and fill it with fresh ice.
Shake everything with ice until well chilled.
Strain into the glass and perch the blood orange wheel on top.
